Google Chrome OS Announced Along With A Pilot Program

And finally it's here! Google announced its much anticipated Chrome OS on Tuesday during a function in San Fransisco, United States. Through the introduction Google is trying to re-allocate the personal computing experienced on to the web. The notebooks that uses this Operating system is expected to be launched during the mid- 2010.

The OS will make maximum use of cloud computing features. It is interesting to know that the Operating system highly relies on the Google chrome browser they launched in September 2008. This would indicate a clear change in approach to personal computing considering the fact that Internet Explorer was launched much later after Windows came into the market. The announcement also has its significance as it happens when Microsoft is celebrating the 25th launch of its Windows Operating System this year. When windows was introduced in 1985 World Wide Web was not discovered.

Those who are familiar with Google Chrome would approve of one fact; that is speed. It is supposed to be the fastest browser around now and is open source. According to current estimates almost 120 million people uses Google Chrome as browser in their computers and is increasing.

Mr Sunder Pichai, Vice President of Google Chrome Product Management during his introduction to the Google Chrome OS said that the company had given much priority to simplicity, speed and security for their chrome browser. People are now living on web, he continued. And there is not much for the operating systems to do on the web. Google Chrome OS is nothing but web itself. The OS is meant for computers with Keypads and the android would continue as the preferred touch pad OS choice.

Acer and Samsung are the first two companies that would release notebooks using the Chrome OS. The notebooks will be powered by Intel chips and the prices are not yet decided. However a pilot project is introduced with Notebooks using chrome beta and is named CR-48. Pilot program would run for next six months. Google says that like in Chrome browser, priority is given to simplicity, speed and security while engineering the OS. This is clear from the fact when the company says the OS boots in 10 seconds which suggest the software is simple and fast. Security is one thing that would have to be tested in real user environments.

The user applications, document and setting are stored safely in the cloud so that they are never lost. The user can retrieve his data from any computer after signing into chrome. This would prevent the risk of data loss even if your notebook is lost or met with unprecedented failures. Google is quite confident about the security features as they confirm that viruses and malwares will not be able to reach your data.

There are numerous other features that Google did to please its users. One such feature is the ability to customize the OS to your own taste. So if you are sharing your net book with your spouse, they will not see your customization since each user can have their own account and customization. You will always remain connected with web and the Chrome notebooks support Wifi and 3G. Another attraction is the ability to use apps. Millions of Apps will be available to download to make your browsing a simple pleasure. Your system will always remain updated without you knowing about the updates, much similar to Chrome browser version updates.
