In an interview with Wall Street Journal LG's Vice President of Marketing, Chang Ma, has claimed that his company's new Tablet "Android Optimus" will be a device better than Ipad - A claim that many market analysts would consider interesting. Chang Ma however did not mention any of the specification of the device. The claims made by Chang Ma is considered as an attempt of the company to create a hype on the upcoming device.
Ipad still holds near 100 % share in the tablet market and if one has to break through the domination of Apple in this segment they need to produce a device that is far better in its technical functionalities. LG knows it better and seems to be so confident with the answer - "Our Android tablet will be better than the iPad. It’s going to be surprisingly productive. The race hasn’t started yet".
“The first LG tablet, which will run on Google Inc.’s Android software, will set itself apart from Apple Inc.’s iPad by focusing on the ability to create content, rather than simply display it“, Mr. Ma said in the interview. “LG Optimus tablet is going to be surprisingly productive,” he said.
In a recent marketing letter LG said that their new tablet will help the content creation and has the features that would aid in creating documents and also create programs ad edit videos. Though there are no hardware specifications known for the device it is believed to be a 10 inch device with a power that could even support the future android version 3.0 under its hood. The device is also believed to have a laptop like screen and would impress more users.
It is healthy for the market when the companies like HP, Samsung and LG are bringing their own versions of Tablets. From a consumer point of view it better to have choices and options and would fill the void left by the Ipad which is more focused on entertainment.
