Just few days before Microsoft announced their entry into the tablet market, by introducing two new tablets Surface and Surface Pro, and now they did one more great announcement in their history, by announcing their latest mobile operating system Windows 8, formally known as Windows Appolo. The Joe Belfiore officially unwrapped the new mobile OS, to offer the power of Windows to the mobile lovers.

The new OS shares some common features with the desktop and tablet version of the OS, simply means that the manufacturers can conveniently use the same hardware drivers between the Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, and also the developers easily develop better apps, as both of the OS shares same kernel, file system, multimedia support, and much more.

The new OS offers a redesigned home screen, that almost follows the minimalist model of the Metro user interface, and gives room for more live tiles of various sizes, by throwing the black vertical stripe on the right. Microsoft added a huge variety of theme colors in the Windows Phone 8. The tiles can be scaled into three different sizes, according to the user's preference.

Now comes the most exciting feature revealed by Microsoft in their new OS, the Windows Phone 8 will support muti-core chipsets and also multiple resolutions displays. The company has already tested the OS with multi-core chips, and the outcome was so promising. Microsoft is planning to launch the Dual-core WP 8 handsets sometime in the fall, and the quad core version will be coming later. The new OS offers support for a variety of resolutions, including WXGA (1280 by 768 pixels) and 720p (1280 by 720 pixels). The new platform also offers support for microSD cards for your additional storage needs.

Microsoft has included a strong software side in the new OS. Windows Phone 8 offers Internet Explorer 10, enhanced HTML5 support and the quadrupled JavaScript performance. Giving a superior browsing experience with smart features, like anti-phishing filter. The HTML rendering for Internet Explorer 10 is the same in both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.

The OS will be shipping with maps powered by Nokia, with turn-by-turn directions and the ability to work offline. The Nokia Maps are currently available for users who own a Nokia Lumia smartphone, but Microsoft has promised that in future it will be available in all handsets.

The new OS will be coming with NFC support, for quick and easy transfer of contact data by the pairing of wireless devices. There is also a new hub included in the OS Called Wallet hub, with which users can make wireless payments. The first carrier to implement the new Wallet hub will be Orange France, Microsoft is also planning to bring this to US, and they are in talks with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, we may expect the feature in 2013.

Microsoft has never disappointed those who are really concerned about the security of their devices, and included a number of security features like BitLocker technology, there will be encryption and secure boot. One more happy news from Microsoft, the new OS will have native Skype integration.

The first manufacturer to offer the WP8 powered device, is obviously Nokia. Samsung, HTC, and Huawei are also there in the list, behind Nokia.

If you already own a Windows Phone devices, then we have to disappoint you, the WP 8 will not be available to the excisting Windows devices. But don't worry the company will be be offering a Windows Phone 7.8 update that’s being to be rolled-out to existing devices, that will also offer same overall feel as WP 8.
