Last week we reported about LG's plans on releasing a water/dust proof version of their Optimus G smartphones. Now the Korean makers have officially announced the Optimus GJ in Taiwan. The device is just an upgraded version of Optimus G with a ruggedized design. The phone features IPX7 certification i.e, smartphone can withstand 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
The features of the device is almost similar to that of Optimus G, including a 4.7-inch display of 720p resolution, the power of Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset with a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor along with 2 GB of RAM.
It packs a 2,280mAh battery, and runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out of box. The camera is a 13MP one, and IPX7 certification means it can be used as an under water camera too. There is also a 1.3MP rear camera for video chats. The phone offers a 16 GB on-board storage. Right now the Optimus GJ is available in Taiwan for TWD17,990 (about $602). There is no words on the global availability of the device right now.
Optimus GJ have to compete with Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZR and also with the upcoming Galaxy S4 Active.
