Google Chromecast TV Gadget launched

Earlier July 24th was expected to be a day to launch the Android 4.3 OS update. Later we heard about the rumors of Nexus 7 being launched on the day. But nothing was discussed or expected about this $35 Chromecast TV Gadget.

So what is Google Chromecast?

Google chrome  cast is  a tiny device that plugs into the HDMI port of your HD TV and stream the contents on the internet. You can watch videos and do much more using this gadget. But this is not an innovation from Google. We already have similar devices from Apple, Netflix and numerous other makers.

So the question is what makes the Google Chromecast device special?

First thing that comes to my mind is the price. At $35 it is priced much cheaper than Apple TV. Google also offers 3 months of Netflix subscription, so the price drops for around $24 for those already have Netflix subscription, bringing down the effective price to $11, which is cheap by all standards

Another thing is the way it works. Most android sticks operates using the remote control associated with it. But the Chromecast is controlled using a smartphone or a tablet. If suppose you need to watch a video on Youtube on your device. All you have to do is to plug-in the Chromecast device to your TV. Now get your smartphone and find the video, you need not have to switch on the TV Set. You can do it from your phone. Google is incorporating a button on Youtube, just press it and start watching the video on you TV screen.

This, however, is not the first time Google attempts to bring internet into television. In earlier attempts we saw Google TV and later Nexus Q. Both did not receive a great welcome from the users. But this time the price factor and the lessons learned from previous failures can work in favor of Google. It will be available from July 28th.
