The Solid Walls Become Transparent With Radio Waves

We all know that solid wall block vision. We can't see the objects moving behind a solid wall. But as the technology advances, we can now track and locate the peoples moving behind any obstructions. The engineers at University of Utah, Salt Lake City, United States, have developed a system to see the objects moving behind any blockage with the help of a wireless network of radio transmitters.

The system uses RTI or radio tomographic imaging method to track the objects. When a radio wave passes through the moving objects, its shadows are created by these wave, and strength on numerous paths are measured. By analysing this data the computer fabricates an image. The wireless system used in this system is a network based on Zigbee. The system will work in dark and obstructions like walls, where infrared or optical imaging system cannot work, as it uses RF signals.

The team hope that this system will be useful for police, capture intruders, firefighters, rescue hostages and any emergency services.
