Nokia Files Patent For Self Charging Mobile Battery Powered By Piezoelectrics

While talking on the phone only to have the line cut off simply because you ran out of juice, will really make you frustrated. Some mobile manufactures (like Samsung) are overcoming this by incorporating solar energy as an alternative.

Nokia is planning to overcome this problem by taking the energy from piezoelectricity and kinetic energy. Nokia filed a pattent for a 'Piezoelectric Kinetic Energy Harvester,' this is actually a battery that contains a first frame which is composed with second frame with more than one piezo electric elements. The battery is included into the phone by other piezoelectric elements.

The phone's daily use will definitely produce some enery, from acceleration rotation etc. A power controller attached to the battery will gather this energy and according to Nokia, this energy is enough for "at least to recharge the battery partially."

For the time being, this is just a patent application and the production is not yet started. May be we have to wait for some more time to see the Nokia piezoelectic batteries.

It is really good if the device will work by drawing power only from kinetic energy without any standard battery. We can expect self charging smartphones in the near future.
