The Chinese makers Huawei had introduced their phablet device Ascend Mate with a huge display and some interesting features back in CES January. The company now announces the availability of the device in Australia. Huawei introduced the device in Sydney at a press event. It will be available starting from April 20 via Harvey Norman stores, for a price of AU$429. The device will also be available through other retail stores in coming days.

The Ascend Mate features a huge 6.1" HD IPS+ display that offers a 720p resolution and there will be a 1.5 GHz Hi-Silicon quad-core processor to power the show. The Ascend Mate also comes with an 8.0-megapixel AF rear-facing camera with HDR and 1.0-megapixel HD front-facing camera and a massive 4050 mAh battery, that offers greater battery juice when compared to other smartphones available in the market. It features Huawei's own Emotion UI, on the top of Android 4.1. The Mate features a 'magic touch' interface that will let the users to navigate the device even with their gloves.
With its massive display Mate has to compete with Samsung's recently announced Mega devices, but Mega got announced just a couple of days ago, and it will take some time to enter into the market, so Mate will get some time to enjoy its journey as a free bird.
The Mate doesn't support 4G, but the Chinese makers says that the device is compatible with all international 3G and 2G networks.
Harvey Norman and Huawei is joining with Boost Mobile to offer a prepaid starter kit for $40/€30, that offers users unlimited talk, text and MMS, along with 3GB of mobile data. Check it out here.
