New waterproof Sony Xperia ZR with 4.6-inch HD display in the making?

Sony's current flagship device Xperia Z is doing pretty well in terms of sales volume. The Japanese makers have sold more than 4 million units of Xperia Z till now, and most probably this may be the reason for Sony to check out their luck once again on the high-end waterproof handsets, and if the latest reports are to be believed, Sony is working on another similar handset with some slight changes and we can see the device soon in near future.

According to Xperia Blog the device will be called Xperia ZR, and will stay in between Xperia Z and Xperia SP smartphones in terms of specifications. The device with a codename Dogo and model number C550X sports a smaller 4.6 inch display with 1280 x 720 pixels, compared to Xperia Z. The phone will be using a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor and there will be a 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and on the imaging front it offers a 13MP rear camera, and a front camera of unknown resolution and a 2,300 mAh battery.

The Xperia ZR also features a water/dust resistant design and comes with IP55/IP58 certification instead of IP55/IP57 rating of Xperia Z, that means it can be immersed into water beyond 1 meter for at least 30 minutes, with out any problem.

The image of the device is yet to be available, but reportedly it features Xperia ZL like design with glass back like Xperia Z. No information on when the device will be making its debut.
