Apple's future iPad generations may coming with entirely superior technology to navigate. Apple made a patent for a intelligent bezel, in which capacitive touch sensors are embedded into the chasis surrounding the main display and the control can be done through this frame as it responds to the touch inputs.
The capacitive touch screen will work like the soft keys provided at the bottom of the smartphone displays and can activate the contextual menu options. In future iPads, Apple may provide these keys at the edge of the frame, and can rotate as it is flipped, and also the bazel offer some grip to iPad.
On screen control may be done through different bazel-touches, and they are also planning to include a new method to discriminate between input and mere contact.
