Symbian Foundation announced late in 2008 that they would make the Symbian OS open source with which the mobile manufactures and build their own version of OS. And now Symbian make it true. The Symbian OS is open source and is free to use now.
Symbian is the OS which is commonly found in majority of Nokia handset. Nokia prefers Symbian for their mid-range handsets. But recently iPhone OS and Google's open source OS Android made a trend in phone markets and Symbian had to fall down little behind.
It is sure that the move of making Symbian an open source definitely leads to the acceleration of Symbian and can reach above Android. Nokia now confirmed their support for the Sybian OS and will continue the OS for their future hand sets.
But now Android is more popular and a number of phone manufactures already picked up the OS there is a chane of rival between them. No idea about who will win the race. Let time proclaim the results.
