Second Generation Nexus 7 To Get Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor Power

Google is ditching the  Nvidia's Tegra 4 System-on-a-Chip in favor of  Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro silicon processor. Yes,  if the reports from Digitimes are to be believed then the second generation of Google's Nexus 7 tablet will be coming with  Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, while the currently available first model utilizes  Nvidia Tegra 3 processor power under the hood, and eventually tech worldwere expecting Nvidia's Tegra 4 in its next iteration of Nexus 7.

Asus will be manufacturing the second generation Nexus 7 tablet  for Google, and it isl said to offer a  full HD (1920 x 1080) display, where the current version tips up to 1280 x 800 pixels resolution.  Digitimes reports that Google and Asus opted  Qualcomm Snapdragon processor instead of Tegra 4, as it offers integrated 4G LTE support.

On the other hand Michael McConnell,  Pacific Crest analyst says that

"Supply chain conversations indicate two reasons for Google’s selection of the Snapdragon APQ8064 overTegra 4: competitive pricing, and a decision to single-source the application processor and 3G/4G modem to simplify logistics and create a fully pin-compatible platform interface."

In another report Digitimes noted that Google's Nexus 7 will take the wraps off by May and says that "Asustek’s second-generation Nexus 7 is expected to appear in May with enhanced specifications and a price of US$249 to challenge its 7- to 8-inch competitors including the Apple iPad mini." That may be likely to be possible as Google's I/O conference scheduled for May 15 to May 17 and the new Nexus 7 model will see the official spotlight, along with other Google products.
