ST-Ericsson Introduces 3GHz NovaThor L8580 eQuad Processor

ST-Ericsson-NovaThor-L8580

Earlier this year ST-Ericsson introduced their latest 2.5GHz NovaThor L8580 CPU, but the chip makers are fast enough to come up with a faster version of the processor within a month. The new 3GHz version of the processor named quad-core NovaThor L8580  eQuad is set to showcase at the MWC next week in Barcelona.

According to the makers, their latest processor is "the world’s fastest smartphone processor." It uses STMicro’s 28nm FD-SOI process technology to reduce the battery consumption to a considerable level, and the company says that this will offer "real industry breakthrough in terms of speed, power consumption and overall performance."

It features four Cortex-A9 cores paired up with PowerVR SGX544 GPU clocked at 600MHz, and also uses ModAp, that will optimize the execution of apps, that will let the processor to run up to 35% faster in some cases. The eQuad can nicely play dual cameras of up to 20-megapixel and also offers HD voice support, and LTE connectivity, VoLTE, WiFi Direct, and NFC.

Hope we can watch the performance of the device in next week at Barcelona.
